Yo-Landi turned down Hollywood acting opportunity

07.07.2010

Yo-landi Vi$$er said no. With her peroxide-blonde mullet, squeaky voice and tiny frame, Die Antwoord’s Yo-landi Vi$$er is certainly a unique character. And nobody loves a unique character more than Hollywood movie bosses, who have offered the pint-sized starlet a role in an upcoming film!

Yo-Landi, who along with Ninja and DJ Hi-Tek make up South African rap act Die Antwoord, has confirmed that she was approached by director David Fincher to play the role of Lisbeth Salander in the latest film version of Stieg Larsson's best-selling novel, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Sources reveal David Fincher, who is probably best known for his work on flicks like Fight Club and Seven, was apparently "raving" about the bleach-blonde babe, claiming that Yo-Landi is "exactly who he wants his Salander to look and act like". The character in question, Lisbeth Salander, is a hacker girl suffering from Asperger’s who transforms herself into a private detective. Daniel Craig is also reportedly in talks for the role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the film.

However, Yo-Landi has turned down the opportunity to become a Hollywood leading lady in order to focus on her career with Die Antwoord, which she describes as "her life".  According to Rapport newspaper, Yo-Landi said that while she did not know the books "a few people have told me of the main character and said that I remind them of her".

Luckily for Yo-landi, Die Antwoord’s success has only started. The band have just signed to Interscope records in America - the former home of Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, and more recently Lady Gaga. And District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has also signed up to direct their next music video.

But turning down The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo isn’t the end of Yo-landi’s acting career. Rumour has it Die Antwoord have a film project of their own in the works - The Answer. “We would compare it to District 9, but just with more rave and more rap,” Ninja revealed in a recent interview.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo starts shooting in September, so we’ll have to wait till then to see who finally bags the role. Although we can’t imagine who’ll measure up to Yo-landi’s zef image...

I've read the book. She would have fit very good for the character if you ask me. Only her accent might have been wrong for the movie. Lets hope to see her soon on any screen!
